Dali is Yunnan's lake-and-mountain old town: the Bai people's marble-and-blossom city on Erhai lake beneath the 4,000-metre Cangshan range. It's the relaxed alternative to Lijiang — bike-and-cafe days, three-courses-of-tea ceremonies and the classic Yunnan loop start.
Top sights
- Dali Old Town — Walled grid of stone streets around the Foreigner Street cafe quarter — lively without Lijiang's crush.
- Three Pagodas — The 9th-century trio backed by Cangshan reflections in the pond — Dali's defining photo.
- Erhai lakeside cycle — Rent an e-bike for the 2-hour run along the west shore through Bai villages, rapeseed fields and piers.
- Cangshan cableway — Ride up to the cloud-line paths and the Qingbi Stream — walk the jade corridor as long as legs allow.
- Xizhou village — The best-preserved Bai courtyard town with morning markets and Xizhou baba flatbread off the griddle.
Suggested itinerary

- 얼하이 일주. 전동 스쿠터 일주, 어촌 탐험, 호숫가 카페

Old town for atmosphere; lakeside villages (Caicun, Shuanglang) for views and quiet.
Good to know
- Sunscreen at altitude: the UV off Erhai is brutal — hats matter more than in lowland Yunnan.
- E-bikes need the lakeshore permit roads — ask the rental shop for the current allowed loop.
- March brings the Sanyuejie fair, but Feb–March rapeseed bloom is the scenic peak.
