Yangshuo is the activity capital of the karst country — rock climbing, river rafting, cycling through rice paddies under sugar-loaf peaks, all in a compact county town. West Street nightlife anchors the evenings, while the Yulong river is the photogenic soul of the region.
Top sights
- Yulong River bamboo raft — Flat-water raft past the karst peaks — the definitive Yangshuo image; book the upper section for quiet.
- Xingping fishing-village walk — The classic river bend (printed on the ¥20 note) is 20 minutes by bus — sunrise beat the buses in.
- Moon Hill — Climb the arch-capped hill near Gaotian for a 360° view over the peak forest.
- Ten-Mile Gallery cycle loop — Riverside and field-side bike path passing Big Banyan Tree and Moon Hill — flat, half a day, e-bikes available.
- Impression Liu Sanjie show — Zhang Yimou's night spectacle with 600 performers on the river — book the seats, not the cheap rows.

- Sunrise at Xingping: first buses leave 6am, a private car ¥60 saves the 40-min wait.
